THE TECHNICAL BIT
Users of sprinkler protection are responsible for ensuring the system remains in a working condition by carrying out regular checks to guarantee that, if required; the protection works to effectively control or extinguish the fire. Clients systems should be tested weekly by a competent person and in accordance with manufactures specified criteria, to check the condition of the equipment and exercise moving parts. Results of tests should be recorded on ‘Weekly Sprinkler Test Cards’, with a separate card being needed for each installation. Additional checks to the batteries and the security of any water storage tanks should also be carried out monthly by the nominated competent person(s).
A competent person (or persons where cover may be needed for holidays or sickness), should normally be present at the premises and should be familiar with the system to ensure they are present in the event of any emergencies and able to carry out any emergency isolation or system draining required. Where any training may be required, FVS are on hand to help clients with this.
