New Sprinkler Protection to Warehouse Extension.

FVS were contracted by our long established client to protect an extension to their existing warehouse facility at Pilsworth Industrial Estate. Our client a leading UK specialist in Italian wood have utilised our services for the planned maintenance of their existing sprinkler protection for almost ten years.

FVS designed new sprinkler protection to be installed to the new extension measuring approximately 1900m². The sprinkler protection to be fitted to both the roof and new mezzanine and racking was designed in accordance with the LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations 2015 (incorporating BS EN 12845) to provide protection suitable for their High Hazard Storage requirements. Hydraulic design of the system was fully calculated using FHC software in accordance with LPC requirements. New protection fed from existing 150mm wet alarm valves.

Installation Work

Over a period of three weeks FVS installed phase one sprinkler protection; consisting of 100mm sprinkler mains connected to existing facility to feed 32mm and 40mm gridded ranges and 15mm K80 Quick Response, 68°c SSU LPC approved sprinkler heads at roof level. All work was carried out to planned safe systems of work, using necessary tools and equipment and utilising appropriate PPE. Working at height was achieved via the use of electric scissors lift supplied by FVS.

Following the erection of warehouse racking, FVS installed phase two sprinkler protection after taking a new supply by extending the existing 100mm mains pipework from existing warehouse facility. Range pipework installed at each level to feed 20mm K115 Quick Response, 68°c pendant LPC approved sprinkler heads. All new pipework installed was mild steel, finished with one coat of red oxide paint and supported from either the rack structure or the internal walls/ceilings.

New sprinkler protection was charged and witness pressure tested. Project was completed on time, in budget and to client satisfaction. Commissioning and handover completed with client and full set of O&M Instructions issued along with necessary completion documents.
